Evolution of language with Google Books

Hi there, I recently read the post by Ed Yong on the evolution of our language measured using Google Books. Google Books apparently has 12% of everything that has ever been published! A group of scientists prepared a tool to analyze this enormous amount of data and you can try it yourself!

What it does is it shows you how often certain words (specified by you) have been used in print in history. I found some interesting examples.

life vs. death

sex vs. drugs vs. rock and roll

Classic from Ed’s blog: burnt vs. burned

  8. As a student, I often find myself struggling with complex language and obscure references in my academic assignments. But with Google Books, I can easily access historical texts and scholarly works to better understand the context and evolution of language. However, there are times when I need additional help and support, and I may have to pay someone to write my assignment. Overall, Google Books is a treasure trove of linguistic knowledge that can aid in the study of language and its evolution, but it's also essential to recognize our limitations and seek assistance when necessary.
